The Discovery Call: What, Why, and How to Prepare… or Not

What Happens on a Discovery Call

Wondering what a discovery call involves? Here's exactly what we cover, what you don't need to have figured out, and what comes next.

Maybe you've had the tab open for a week. Maybe longer. You know you're interested. You might even know you're ready. But booking the call feels like a bigger step than it probably is, and a lot of that comes down to not knowing what happens when you do.

Here's exactly what it looks like.

It's a conversation, not a pitch

The call is 30 minutes. You'll speak with a senior member of our team. There's no script, no slideshow, and no closing move at the end.

We're not trying to sell you anything on this call. We're trying to understand your situation, and you're trying to understand ours. Both of those things are equally the point. A lot of people arrive expecting to be pitched, and are surprised when they're not. That's intentional.

What we may discuss

Every call is different, but most conversations move through some version of these:

  • What brought you to this point. What you're carrying, where you are with it, and what's made you start looking. Not because there's a threshold to clear, but because the answer shapes everything that follows.

  • Your history with this work. Whether you've sat with other medicines before, what those experiences taught you, and what's drawn you specifically to 5-MeO-DMT now.

  • Your current life and support. What season you're in, what's stable, what isn't, and who's around you for the integration that comes after.

  • Health and medications. A brief, honest conversation about anything that might affect suitability. This is not a clinical screening, that happens separately for those who move forward, but it gives us a starting picture.

  • What we offer, and how we work. The retreat itself, the medicine, the preparation and integration container, what a week at Tandava actually looks like. Whatever's on your mind.

The questions we hear the most

A few that come up on nearly every call, so you know you're not alone in wondering:

  • How do I know if I'm ready? Most people aren't sure. Readiness is rarely a feeling of certainty, it's more often a quiet, persistent sense that something is calling you forward.

  • What if I have a difficult experience? Difficulty is part of this work. The question is whether the container holding you can meet that difficulty with skill. We'll walk you through ours.

  • Is 5-MeO-DMT safe? The honest answer is that safety depends far more on the context than the molecule itself. Screening, facilitation, preparation, and integration are what make this work safe… or don't.

  • How does it compare to ayahuasca, psilocybin, or other medicines? They're different medicines that ask for different kinds of care. We can walk you through the distinction on the call, or you can read our guide on the differences first.

  • What does integration actually involve? Structured support over weeks, not days. We'll explain how ours works and why it matters.

How to prepare for the call… don't.

This is the section most people don't expect, but it's the most important one. Don't prepare.

You don't need to arrive with clear intentions, polished goals, or confident answers. You don't need to have done more research, journaled on your why, or be further along in any process. The call is not a test, and we are not evaluating how thoughtfully you've prepared.

Some of the most meaningful calls we have are with people who open with: "I'm not entirely sure why I'm here. I just know something needs to change." That's a real answer. It's often the most honest one.

The only thing the call genuinely asks of you is to show up and say where you actually are. We'll take it from there.

What happens at the end

There are two honest outcomes.

If it seems like a good fit for you, for us, for now, we'll walk you through the next steps. No pressure, just clarity on what comes next if you want to move forward.

If it's not the right fit, or not the right time, we'll say that too. We'd rather tell you that on a 30-minute call than have you commit to something that isn't going to serve you the way it should. That's not a failure of the conversation. It's exactly what the conversation is for.
